Perfect as a sports option for your adventurous students!

This course is really popular with schools and colleges. Throughout the course the students will develop into competent paddlers, whilst being able to have fun and play some games to practice those new skills too.

By the end of the course, the participants should all have attained their British Canoeing Start award, but they will have also had great fun, been challenged to push their comfort zone in a supportive atmosphere, and probably used some muscles they had forgotten existed!

For younger children we can adapt this course to use the paddle power sylabus rather than start award, to give attainable targets and achievement throughout.

When can you book?

We are open year round for bookings, although most of our activities take place between March and October. School groups do come to us throughout the year during term time though.

During the main season (Easter to October) we are open 7 days a week, and when daylight allows we take evening bookings (approx mid April to mid September).

The course normally lasts for 7.5 hours in total, split into either 3 x 2.5 hours, or 5 x 1.5 hour sessions. We are happy to be flexible though, and can extend the course to fit in with term dates if required, just get in touch for a quote.

Participants

Recommended minimum age: 10

Maximum number: 8

A minimum fee applies equivalent to 8 people.

Students that achieve the Start award will be provided with a certificate via British Canoeing.

Staff or leaders are welcome to participate, but it is not essential as all sessions are run by our experienced team of coaches. We allow 1 leader to participate for free per 8 students, subject to availability of boats. Special needs groups may require staff participation on the water, or a greater ratio of our staff – please discuss at time of booking if relevant.

Venues

At Warwick you can take a short paddle to see the castle from the river, but as you’ll go straight out onto the river, we can only take groups from age 10 upwards, and a maximum of 8 children.

Booking

Initially, phone or e-mail  to arrange your date and time and check availability. We can make a provisional booking and reserve your slot in the diary.

To confirm your booking, we require a deposit of approximately 50% of the expected total (if the start date is more than 2 weeks ahead) or full payment if within 2 weeks of the start.

Final confirmation of numbers and full payment is required at least a week in advance of the session. This allows us to make sure we have the correct number of staff in place for your session.

We can accept payment either by cash, card, online or bank transfer. For schools/colleges an official purchase order is also acceptable to confirm your booking.

Please note we are unable to accept individual payments from course participants on our discounted youth group/school prices.

Upon confirmation of your booking, we will e-mail the group leader some information for participants about what to wear and bring, and a consent form. It is the responsibility of the group leader to disseminate this information as needed, and to bring completed consent forms for each participant to the first session.
